Tech Tip – How To Force Your Android Screen To Be Bright - Even If You Have a Low battery

Did you know that Android phones usually automatically dim the screen when they get below the minimum battery power threshold (when the phone battery is getting almost completely flat), however there can be certain circumstances where you need to have a bright screen even though the phone battery is on its last legs of power.

Here is how to do it:

  • On your Android phone, open settings (usually the small gear icon)
  • Go to Display
  • Adjust the brightness slider to the level you want
  • Disable Adaptive (Auto) Brightness, this will prevent your phone from changing the display brightness based on ambient light
  • Go back to the main settings page and then select Battery or Power
  • Turn off Battery Saver Mode (if this option is there) as this will also try to dim the screen if enabled

NOTE: this will drain your battery considerably more quickly which could be an issue if your battery is already low, however there may be a time when you need the extra brightness in an emergency such as if you are in a very bright environment.  It may be worth looking at alternate ways to save battery life to counter this, such as closing any unwanted apps that are running in the background, or putting the phone temporarily in airplane mode, or turning off individual elements only such as Bluetooth or WiFi.
